Countdown to HLTH 2023: Three topics Steer’s CEO is looking forward to discuss

HLTH is more than just another conference; it’s a hotbed for curious leaders, a gathering of the best minds, and a convergence of ideas that will define the future of healthcare.

I am particularly excited about the opportunity to connect with industry thought leaders, peers, executives, and stakeholders at HLTH this year. The discussions that will take place go beyond the ordinary; they delve deep into the pressing issues and possibilities that healthcare businesses are currently facing.

I am especially eager to engage in insightful discussions regarding the role of AI and automation in the healthcare industry today. I am passionate about exploring collaborative ways to improve care for individuals, enhance the working environment for physicians and staff, and ultimately support the thriving of our health systems.

Here are the three topics I’m most thrilled to discuss with you:

Is AI beneficial or problematic for healthcare?

When it comes to tackling current challenges, I firmly believe that AI is not just an option; it’s an imperative. AI Automation, in particular, plays a pivotal role. Without automation, healthcare’s growth potential remains untapped. It streamlines processes, reduces errors, and allows healthcare professionals to focus on what truly matters – delivering exceptional care to patients.

However the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on healthcare is a subject of ongoing debate, characterized by both optimism and caution. On one hand, AI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare by enhancing diagnostics, personalizing treatment plans, and optimizing operational efficiencies. Algorithms can analyze complex medical data much faster than human beings, enabling quicker and more accurate diagnoses. AI can also assist in automating administrative tasks, and has immense potential to provide contextual hospital at home services, thus making healthcare more accessible.

On the other hand, there are challenges such as data security, ethical considerations around machine decision-making, and the potential for job displacement within the healthcare sector. The use of AI also raises questions about the ownership and sharing of medical data, as well as the potential for algorithmic bias, which could exacerbate existing health inequalities. Therefore, while AI offers promising benefits for healthcare, careful implementation, strong privacy safeguards and ongoing oversight are crucial to mitigate its associated risks and challenges.

Can hospitals meet the ever changing expectations of consumers?

Another topic that intrigues me is the rapidly evolving landscape of healthcare that has left hospitals with the daunting task of meeting ever-changing consumer expectations, a feat that is challenging yet imperative for long-term success.

On one hand, technological advancements like on-demand telemedicine, advanced diagnostics, and real-time data analytics have elevated patient expectations for immediate, high-quality care. On the other hand, the rise of consumerism in healthcare means that patients are increasingly looking for a seamless, customer-centric experience, akin to what they get in retail or hospitality sectors.

I strongly believe that meeting these expectations requires hospitals to not only invest in easy-to-use, and proven technology but also focus on holistic care, transparent pricing, and exceptional customer service. Striking this balance is not optional but a business imperative, as failure to adapt can result in decreased patient loyalty, poor reputation, and ultimately, a decline in revenue. Ultimately, continuous improvement, coupled with an unwavering focus on patient experience, is key for hospitals aiming to meet and exceed modern healthcare consumer expectations.

Why is one-to-one personalisation crucial in preventing physician burnout in the modern era?

I strongly believe that technology-powered personalization in healthcare is becoming increasingly crucial in mitigating physician burnout, a concerning trend that threatens the efficiency and quality of healthcare delivery. As we all know, today physicians often deal with heavy workloads, tight schedules, and administrative burdens, which contribute to emotional fatigue and decreased job satisfaction. Implementing personalized technology solutions – such as contextual care plans, AI-driven patient triage, and onDemand telemedicine – can significantly offload routine tasks from healthcare providers.

By automating these aspects, doctors can focus more on patient care and decision-making, which are the core of their profession and often the most rewarding parts of their job. In turn, this fosters a more sustainable work environment and improves patient outcomes, as physicians can approach their tasks with renewed focus and reduced stress. In the end, personalized tech interventions are not merely advancements; they are necessities for the modern healthcare landscape.
